US Army SSG Carlos Alonzo Benitez (KIA) 24, returning home to N. Texas

SSG Carlos A. Benitez
He was born on November 21, 1985 in Lubbock, TX, to Luis A. Benitez and Imelda Castillo. He attended Irving and Carrollton schools throughout his childhood. He received his GED and then joined the United States Army in 2004, serving a total of 6 years active duty.
SSG Benitez was first stationed at Ft. Hood serving two long tours in Iraq and was recently stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado where he was deployed to Afghanistan.

He received a Bronze Star Medal, a Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campain Medal with Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Combat and Special Skill Badge, Basic Markmanship Qual Badge as Expert, and 4 Overseas Service Bars.
He married on January 11, 2008 in Denton County to Susana M. Cerrato Benitez; followed by a church ceremony in April 2009. SSG Benitez, who prided himself on being a family man, is survived by his wife, Susana M. Benitez and son, Ethan A. Benitez of Irving, TX. who are currently residing in Ft. Carson, CO., daughter, Angelina S. Benitez of Grand Prairie, TX., parents Luis A. Benitez and Imelda Castillo, grandmother, Junita Castillo, brother, Louis Benitez and sister, Aimmee Benitez all of Carrollton, TX, mother-in-law, Dilcia S. Acosta of Houston, TX. as well as many extended relatives, close friends, and fellow comrades. He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother, paternal grandparents and father-in-law.
Final plans and services are being finalized and will be made available soon. His arrival from Dover is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow Oct 21, 2010 at DFW airport at 12:00 noon, local time.
