ARLINGTON, Va. Nov. 18, 2010, Army Staff Sgt. Adam L. Dickmyer, 26, spent three years as commander of the relief and assistant sergeant of the guard, the sentinels who maintain an around-the-clock vigil at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Nov. 16, 2010 White House, President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta for extraordinary bravery in the face of almost death. Giunta is the first living recipient of the award since the Vietnam War.

Veterans Day is a time to thank and acknowledge our military veteran’s service to our country. It should also serve as a reminder for veterans and their families to support those who wish to memorialize their loved ones.

Last October, we as a country, were suffering from many losses due to war. On Oct. 26, last year I woke up to learn a helicopter crashed in Iraq and claimed the lives of 7 Army soldiers. One of those soldiers was SSG Shawn Henry McNabb, 24, of Terrell, TX.

On Oct. 14, 2010 3 soldiers were killed after being attacked by insurgents in Afghanistan including SSG Carlos Benitez. With a wife and two children living in Colorado and a mother with two siblings living in Dallas, the arrangements for SSG Carlos Benitez’s return were chaotic.

It is with a heavy heart to announce the homecoming if SSG Carlos A. Benitez, 24, KIA on October 14, 2010 in Afghanistan, is expected to return to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

(Oct. 12, 2010) Houston, Texas. McNerney was born on June 2, 1931, in Lowell, Massachusetts, died Oct. 10, 2010. His father was a decorated World War I veteran, having received the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and two Purple Hearts. Two of his siblings served in World War II and a third was a fighter pilot in Vietnam.

Pfc. Cody A. Board, 19, of McKinney, Texas, died Oct. 4, just two weeks shy of his 20th birthday, at Mirwais, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.
